Are you struggling to come up with a great gift idea for someone special on your list this holiday season? Unfortunately, I have several difficult-to-buy-for important people in my life, so I thought we could commiserate together while I offer a few, hopefully helpful, suggestions.
Give a Memory
As I grow (ahem) a bit older, preserving memories gain more and more importance. I have especially enjoyed watching our sons begin to look forward to, depend on, and even help preserve family traditions. Our annual summer vacations is an example. It might not be intuitive to think to frame a picture or memento from a summer trip as the temperatures dip around the holidays, but I assure you moms, dads, and grandparents will treasure a beautifully presented memory of a special family event.
For example, here’s a shadow box my younger son keeps in his room from our first beach vacation. He collected the shells himself and my husband took the photo of our son frolicking at the water’s edge. Alas, the piece is not mine, so I have to “visit” it in my son’s room, but when I do, my heart softens at the memory! I’m guessing you have similar reminders stored away that we could help you arrange into a presentation that will warm the heart of the recipient.
Give a Legend
On the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death, we posted a piece we framed of a set of Elvis stamps sold by the U.S Postal Service. We’ve gotten some wonderful feedback on the piece. In fact, more that one customer commented that it would make a great gift for a family member who is an Elvis fan!
What about the people on your list? Do you know their favorite rock star, album, or band? Imagine having an old album cover framed with a concert ticket, or an autographed photo they’ve stored away, or even putting it all together in one frame. They’ll never miss it while you sneak it out and let us turn it into the perfect gift! (By the way, the Elvis piece is still for sale, and we can make more!)
Give a Sports Celebration
Did you know that you can purchase vintage Sports Illustrated magazines on Ebay and Amazon? How is that relevant? Well, some of you know we are transplants, and my husband is a HUGE Arkansas Razorback fan. Sadly, our poor Hogs have won only one national football championship, and even that was contested! However, I was able to purchase an original 1964 Sports Illustrated magazine with the Arkansas championship on the cover. It cost less than $10, and Tony framed it, of course. I’ve since added to his collection and used the idea of framing other iconic sporting events depicted on SI‘s cover as a gift for other tough-to-buy-for family members. So who do you know that would love a framed SI cover celebrating an LSU or Alabama championship? Or what about the newspaper article you packed away announcing the Saints’ Super Bowl win or Jesuit’s state championship? You might try these links or something similar: LSU national championships, and Alabama national championships
